This place was just disgusting. I went in for an abscess tooth while I was on vacation in New Orleans. Dr. Ambrose insisted on two root canals and never looked in my mouth once. I kept asking him if I could fly safely after the procedure and he kept insisting it’s the only thing I could do with no real explanation. I was there for two hours and only spoke to him for a total of 20 minutes. I asked for antibiotics and pain meds which he finally prescribed after going back and forth with me in such a rude way. As the time went by I went to the restroom and it was DISGUSTINGLY DIRTY. The tools as you can see in the picture above are gross and not up to code. Honestly don’t know how this place has been open this long. Thank God I waited to fly home to get work done. DO NOT GET WORK DONE HERE. $195 for an X-ray and that’s all. The two assistants were lovely, that was the only upside.

If I could leave no stars I would. The staff besides the dentist was awesome. They were straight forward, but yet comforting. That dentist doesnt deserve such a staff. I came in for a back Cracked molar, #18 I believe, the dentist and I both agreed that I needed a crown. He then proceeds to charge $175 for x-rays, and uploads them into CS softdent. Next, we move forward with the pricing for said emergency crown. Ended up charging $800 for the procedure and did a true horror story of a hack job. He drilled into my cheek, tongue and carved my gums like a Thanksgiving turkey. It gets worse because I get back home to cincinnati and go to a family friend, that is a dentist, and reseats the crown and makes a new one because the one that the dr had crafted down there wasnt even shaped like a tooth and was rigid and rough and cut into my tongue every I spoke, we discover that this dentist had cut into my other molar, the one that sits right before the one that needed the crown; a hefty amount. Hopefully damage to that tooth doesnt cause it to fail. We find out that he wouldnt send over the x-rays, that I paid for, to the actual competent office because this dentist at his makeshift, dilapidated, butcher shop of an office would be exposed for the damaged he had cause on my other tooth. Again, the one that was NOT the cause of the visit. I may seek legal instruction, I may not. I may just hope that he sees the error in his ways and understand that he's a bit too up there in age to practice. He hands shook uncontrollably at some point. Not sure if that was because he was arguing with one of his staff while my mouth was pryed open or its because he has a medical condition. Either way, I hope this long read helps the next person to make decisions than I did.

This was an absolute nightmare experience that I am now writing about 2 years later due to the complications. I had no medical insurance and a big chip in one of my teeth lead me to calling around for who could see me immediately. This lead me to this hack shop. To spare all the bickering, hostility and general grime of the shop (broken aquarium in the front in a pool of water should have been a MASSIVE red flag but I was desperate…) Doctor Ambrose performed a root canal crown procedure that he insisted was only going to fix part of the problem (insisting i needed many more issues fixed and a bridge) Fast-forward, he chips a tooth BEHIND the root canal crown which for two years was inoperable due to the crown blocking it (needed a filling and likely now another root canal). He literally said “whoops” when I felt a jolt of pain on the wrong tooth during the procedure. During the procedure I am literally hearing yelps of patients in other rooms punctuated by the doctor fighting aggressively with the hygienists. NOW, 2 years later the crown falls out. Crowns are supposed to last 10-15 years. I withheld from leaving this miserable review because the pushy receptionist begged me to leave 5 stars when the procedure was finished and I was just relieved to have it be done with. DO NOT COME HERE. Traumatic nightmare of an experience that I am still paying for financially, mentally, and physically years down the road. This is a shameful practice and I literally feel scammed. 0 stars if possible

I went to his office about one month ago just to have an infected tooth extracted. The procedure should have been simple and typically costs around $200 at most dental clinics. However, he first charged me $195 just for an "investigation," without doing any treatment. After that, he told me that because I am on blood thinners, he could not only extract the tooth and that I "had to" get a bridge instead to prevent bleeding. I strongly believe this was untrue and only said to charge me an additional $2,200-$4,000. I even told him I had stopped taking my blood thinner one day before, but he claimed he had contacted an emergency doctor at my hospital and was told I needed to be off it for three days. Despite that, he still did not handle my situation properly or with caution. Because I have had heart surgery, I cannot have X-rays done the same way as other patients. I informed the staff and even showed them my medical documents, but they did not take it seriously. I also clearly told him that I wanted an implant to replace the missing tooth. He ignored my decision and kept pushing me toward a bridge. When I asked him to explain the procedure, he responded, "I am the doctor here, and I know how to fix it," and refused to explain anything. He also told me he would not allow me to leave the clinic bleeding, yet I still went home in severe pain and bleeding. He gave me two options: * A "permanent cement bridge" for about $4,000 * A "temporary bridge" for $2,200 Even though I only wanted a simple extraction, I felt pressured into choosing the bridge. In the same session, he cut down two healthy teeth next to the extracted tooth in order to place the bridge. Now I have lost two additional teeth and will likely need crowns for them. His work was extremely poor, and I had to return to his office every 2-3 days because of constant issues and discomfort. After he finished placing the bridge, I was still bleeding, and he even forgot to prescribe antibiotics. As a result, I experienced severe pain for the first three days. I returned multiple times because the bridge height was wrong and caused problems when biting. During another visit, I felt two bone fragments left inside my gum. I was confident they were pieces of my tooth, but he insisted they were part of my jawbone. Eventually, he drilled the area anyway. Instead of properly addressing the problem, he gave me more antibiotics and told me to come back the following week. Then, during the next visit, he removed the tooth fragments--despite the fact that I was taking my blood thinner daily at that time. After that, the last tooth supporting the bridge became extremely sensitive to cold water and sweets. As usual, he did not explain anything clearly. He told me the only solution was to remove the entire bridge and repeat the entire procedure again to "see what happened." Again, he did not show any concern about my blood thinner or overall medical condition. He then asked me to sign a paper, but I refused because I no longer trust him or feel confident in his competence. Now I have bad breath, ongoing discomfort, and I need to change dentists and fix the damage that was done. There are many more issues I could mention, but I believe this is enough to warn others not to choose this dentist. I have had this bridge for one month, but I was afraid to leave a review earlier because I worried he would see it and refuse to help fix the problems.

We were in need of a dentist and after a Google search of an emergency dentist- Gentilly came up. We brought in a friend with a chipped tooth and while we were thankful for the front office staff, we waited another hour and started to become a little uneasy. Our friend started to feel uncomfortable and noticed things were not clean. I walked back to try to ease her nervousness and asked the dentist why she couldn’t have the compound versus a temporary crown and he said it wouldn’t work. He immediately got defensive as if I was insulting his know how of dentistry versus just trying ease the nerves of my friend. He was so rude and absolutely refused to offer the alternative fix. Both of which he claimed to be temporary. Overall, we left. Went with our gut and left. They were kind enough to reimburse what we prepaid- and we headed off to Louisiana Dental Center on Magazine St. who we will be leaving a 5 star review to.
