I came for a cleaning and TMJ Botox treatment. The cleaning went smoothly. However, after finishing one side of the TMJ injections, I sensed the deeper layers of the masseter were being avoided, I asked the dentist to treat the deep layers of the masseter. She refused saying she was “afraid to hit the muscle that make you smile.” This was surprising, as I’ve been getting my deeper masseter fibers safely injected with Botox for more than 5 years now. I understand a provider is allowed to decline any treatment. I did softly mention that this area is where the majority of my pain stems, and that I’ve had injections there specifically. I also explained that when it’s done deep enough, I feel immediate tension release. She proceeded to say “let me try something.” Then without explaining what would be done, proceeds to take a needle and rapidly stab it 3-4 times into the muscle area without warning- and without injecting any Botox. She said “just a little dry needling”. I was shocked. I immediately said “I did not like that”. I did not consent to this treatment, it was not communicated upfront. I have fair, sensitive skin. I am willing to be injected with needles when the tradeoff is Botox relief that lasts. I would not consent to increasing my risk for bruising, infection, and soreness for temporary results. Most importantly, I should have been asked upfront and explained what she would be “trying” on my face before beginning. I understand she’s a trained professional, and having since researched, that dry needling has some clinical evidence backing short term relief in some patients. However, injecting Botox into the deep masseter layers was the treatment I came and paid for. I didn’t feel listened to or communicated to properly in this moment, and as a patient who has been treated for this repeatedly, it’s disheartening to think I may continue to have jaw pain for 2 additional weeks or need to see (and pay) for another injector who is comfortable with this region on top of what was already paid for. Next steps are to return in 2 weeks to see how this treatment settles, which is fine and always rational. However I am reluctant to return to this provider after this experience.

I had a specific, urgent medical problem and my doctor wanted to see the kind of x-ray that dentists typically take. This was a non-standard request and many other dentists were confused and wouldn’t take me but Dental Studio SF saw me the next day. Dr Wu understood the problem and was attentive, kind and patient as I used my assistive talking app because I couldn’t talk that well. There was some complexity with billing medical vs dental insurance so they ended up waiving part of the fee which was very kind of them.

I recently visited this office for a teeth whitening procedure and had an excellent experience. Angelica at the front desk was warm, welcoming, and communicated everything thoroughly. Jessica, who performed most of the procedure, was knowledgeable, reassuring, and efficient. Bianca provided friendly assistance throughout, and Dr. Wu demonstrated professionalism, competence, and expertise. The office is very clean, the patient rooms are comfortable, and the views are beautiful. The entire process was painless, and the results exceeded my expectations. Overall, I received exactly the care I needed and would confidently return for future treatments.

I used to love Dental Studio and have been a patient since 2016. It seems they have had significant turnover recently and have gone far downhill. I got X-rays taken and had a check-up six weeks ago and typically see the dentist while I am there. It turned out there were no dentists onsite that day, and they said the dentist would call me back with the X-ray results. They did not call me back, and I had to call repeatedly to ask to speak with the dentist. The one time they called me back I was unavailable, and then when I called back they said the dentist was on vacation for the next couple of weeks. According to that timeline, the dentist should be back by now; however, they still have not called me with my X-ray results. I’m very disappointed in how bad their patient care has become and plan to find a new dentist soon.

Dental Studio SF is THE BEST in the whole Bay Area!! Bianca, Laura, all the staff, and Dr. Ma gives top notch care and service. I have been going there for well over 15 years. Trust me, this is where you want to go for any teeth related service. :-D
